POETRY STUDIO:
Self portrait inc. exphrasis
The self-portrait, with its rich tradition across art forms, offers boundless ways to explore the physical and inner expressions of our selves in poetry.
In A Benign Self-Portrait, the Cherokee and Kiowa Indian poet N Scott Momaday writes: I read to find inspiration. I write / To restore candor to the mind. / There are raindrops on the window,/ And a peregrine wind gusts on the grass./ I think of my old red flannel shirt,/ The one I threw away in July.
Join us to capture the elusive self through the lens of art and imagination, as we write our own self-portraits. We will take inspiration from poets including Diane Seuss, Pascale Petit, N Scott Momaday, Henri Cole, Mary Jo Bang, Lisa Kelly and A.K. Ramanujan.
